National AccessAbility Week 2026: May 31 to June 6

Every year, Canada observes National AccessAbility Week (NAAW). This year, that’s May 31 to June 6, 2026.

The unusual spelling is intentional. The capital “A” in AccessAbility highlights the word “ability” sitting inside “accessibility”; a reminder that this is about what people can do when barriers are removed.

This year’s theme

The 2026 theme is Building a Strong, Accessible Canada.

What’s happening

The fourth Canadian Congress on Disability Inclusion takes place on May 28, 2026. This free virtual event features a panel discussion and a new speaker series focused on practical ways to make communities and workplaces more accessible and inclusive. Registration is open to everyone.

Why It Matters

NAAW invites governments, businesses, organizations, and individuals to take action toward a barrier-free Canada. It is also grounded in legislation: the Accessible Canada Act, in force since 2019, sets a target of a barrier-free Canada by 2040. Ontario organizations are additionally subject to AODA compliance timelines for web content, documents, and customer service standards.
